In January 2017, Pant was a member of the Indian Twenty20 International (T20I) team for their series against England. He made his debut for India in the third Twenty20 International match against England on February 1, 2017, at Bangalore’s M. Chinnaswamy Stadium. Pant made history by being the youngest player to represent India in a Twenty20 International match at the age of 19 years and 120 days.

In February of that year, he was added to the India T20I squad for the 2018 Nidahas Trophy. In July 2018, Pant was a member of the Indian Test team for the England series. He made his Test debut against England on August 18, 2018. He became the first Indian batsman to achieve the milestone in Test cricket after striking a six early in the series. On September 11, 2018, Pant scored his first-ever century against England, making him the first Indian wicketkeeper to make a Test century in England and the second-youngest wicketkeeper in history. The following month, he was part of India’s One Day International (ODI) team for their series against the West Indies.

He played his first-ever One-Day International (ODI) for India against the West Indies on October 21, 2018. Despite scoring 29 in the first innings of the Melbourne Test, Pant’s hit in Sydney changed his career. He scored a counterattacking 97 runs off just 118 balls on the last day, with 97 overs left, and teamed up with Cheteshwar Pujara to score 148 runs. The game ended up being drawn.

In September 2021, Pant played for India in the ICC Men’s T20 World Cup. At the annual ICC Awards in January 2022, Pant was named the 2021 ICC Men’s Test Team of the Year.
